Grade 6 Science Test Monday

Grade 6 students will be having their Science test Monday. Students should be reviewing their notes and worksheets and should be able to: -distinguish between static and current electricity -identify materials that are good conductors and materials that are good insulators -identify ways in which electrical energy is transformed into other forms of energy -identify the properties of air that make flight possible -identify and describe the four forces of flight -describe the relationship between the forces of lift and gravity, and thrust and drag -identify Bernoulli's principle and how it affects flight

Homework for Thursday, May 18

EQAO is now completed and so it is back to business for our regular class. We have been working on probability in math and students have been assigned the following homework in the math textbook: Grade 5 p.382 #2-4 Grade 6 p. 414 #1, 2, 4, and 6 Grade 6 students should also be reviewing their science notes for their test on electricity and flight on Monday.

Homework for Friday, May 18

EQAO is beginning for the grade 6 students next week. These students have had a letter about the testing given to them to take home for further information. In preparation, these grade 6 students have been asked to visit the EQAO.com website to view tests from previous years and look at the answers and examples of student answers (showing the various levels). Students have been shown how to find this information on the website. As we begin our next math unit on Probability, students have been asked to create a probability experiment and identify the possible outcomes (flip a coin- 2 outcomes: Heads or Tails). Students should create a tree for the possible outcomes for a continued experiment (flip a coin twice- 4 outcomes: Heads and Heads, Heads and Tails, Tails and Heads, or Tails and Tails. Experiments can be rolling a number cube, choosing 2 or three coloured blocks from a paper bag without looking and replacing it before picking again, picking names from a hat. See if students reme

Grade 5 Science Test Friday

The Grade 5 students will be having a test on their Energy unit and Structures unit on Friday. Students should be bringing home their notes and previous quiz to review. They will be assessed on the following expectations: -identifying a variety of forms of energy (electrical, chemical, mechanical, heat, solar, wind, water...) -give examples from everyday life of how these various forms of energy are used -identify renewable (sun, wind, water, wood) and non-renewable (coal, oil, natural gas) sources of energy -recognize that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form to another. -explain how energy can be transformed into a different energy form and how some energy is transformed into wasted forms (heat, sound) that are not used in a system. -identify internal forces acting on a structure and describe their effects on the structure -identify external forces acting on a structure and describe their effects on the structure -describe forces resulting fr

Homework for Friday, May the Fourth (Be with You)

Students are asked to wear running shoes for "sneaker day" on Monday to help kick off fit week at our school. We are working on identifying 3D Solids by their nets. Students are asked to do the assigned work from their text books. Grade 5: p.100 #1, 3, 4, and 6 Grade 6: p.99 #1-5
