Homework for Friday, May 18

EQAO is beginning for the grade 6 students next week. These students have had a letter about the testing given to them to take home for further information. In preparation, these grade 6 students have been asked to visit the EQAO.com website to view tests from previous years and look at the answers and examples of student answers (showing the various levels). Students have been shown how to find this information on the website.
As we begin our next math unit on Probability, students have been asked to create a probability experiment and identify the possible outcomes (flip a coin- 2 outcomes: Heads or Tails). Students should create a tree for the possible outcomes for a continued experiment (flip a coin twice- 4 outcomes: Heads and Heads, Heads and Tails, Tails and Heads, or Tails and Tails. Experiments can be rolling a number cube, choosing 2 or three coloured blocks from a paper bag without looking and replacing it before picking again, picking names from a hat. See if students remember how to express the likelihood of an event happening (getting 3 Heads in a row, picking a red, blue, and then green block) in words (likely, unlikely, certain, impossible) and fractions (We have half a chance of getting heads and half a chance of getting tails because there is only one heads and two possible outcomes). Have fun playing some of the games and seeing how it turns out for you!
