Homework for Friday, Oct. 27

Book orders are due Monday. Students are working on modelling patterns shown in a table of values and using models of patterns to create a table of values. The math homework is to practice these concepts. Grade 5 students are to complete #3 and 4 on page 15 of the textbook. Grade 6 students are to complete #2, 3, and 5 on page 382 of the textbook. Students were given some time to work on this in class. If they accomplished what was assigned, they are still asked to take it home and show it to a parent/guardian so that they may check it and verify it is completed. Please let me know if your child is experiencing any difficulties with these concepts so that I may assist them in their learning.

Homework Rules and Procedures

Homework will be given at times throughout the year as a way for students to build on their knowledge and skills learned in class. Everyday practice homework will not be assessed for grading purposes. However, it does help me to understand which students are having some difficulties with the work we are doing in class. I encourage you to help your child with understanding what they are doing for homework. If they are still struggling with concepts we are working on, please write me a note or have the student come see me so that we may work on the problem together. I don't wish to cause frustration and unhappy evenings. If your child has spent an acceptable amount of time working on the homework, but is really struggling, please have them do what they can and write me a note so that I may help them. Students should be writing in their agendas each day to let you know about things that are happening in the classroom/school. This will include any homework assignments or projects the

If they have not already done so, students are asked to return their picture day form for next week.

Grade 5: page 8 #1-4 Grade 6: page 12 #1, 3, 4, and 6 Please have students finish any of this work not completed in class and return tomorrow so that we may take up the answers and correct any errors.

Homework for Tuesday, Oct 11

Picture Day is coming soon and students will have received a form which includes the date and background selection. Please return forms with your selections to me so that they are here for picture day. We have now begun our second unit in math. We have begun learning about creating patterns from a given pattern rule (such as: start at 3, multiply by 2 and subtract 2 each time). Students were working with hundreds charts exploring multiples of numbers, looking for patterns in the ones and tens places. Students should practice finding patterns in multiples, creating patterns from a pattern rule, and identifying the pattern rule from a list of numbers. Sample questions: -Write out the multiples of 3 and then 6. What patterns do you see in each list of numbers? What do you notice if you compare the numbers in both lists? -What is the pattern rule for the following list of numbers: 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23... - Create the following pattern based on the rule: Start at 6, add 11 and sub
