Grade 5 Science Test Friday
The Grade 5 students will be having a test on their Energy unit and Structures unit on Friday. Students should be bringing home their notes and previous quiz to review. They will be assessed on the following expectations:
-identifying a variety of forms of energy (electrical, chemical, mechanical, heat, solar, wind, water...)
-give examples from everyday life of how these various forms of energy are used
-identify renewable (sun, wind, water, wood) and non-renewable (coal, oil, natural gas) sources of energy
-recognize that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form to another.
-explain how energy can be transformed into a different energy form and how some energy is transformed into wasted forms (heat, sound) that are not used in a system.
-identify internal forces acting on a structure and describe their effects on the structure
-identify external forces acting on a structure and describe their effects on the structure
-describe forces resulting from natural phenomena that can have severe consequences for structures in our environment (a house in a windstorm) and identify structural features that help overcome some of these forces (materials used, beams and supports in the structure)
